Big 12 football power rankings: Best and worst teams meet this Saturday

facebooktwitterreddit

Not much change in the power rankings, just reaffirmation of the top spots and a small change in the middle after TCU smacked down Texas on Thanksgiving night. Spoiler alert: Iowa State is still dead last.

Here are the Big 12 power rankings heading into the final week of the season.

More from Iowa State Cyclones

1. TCU Horned Frogs (7-1, 10-1) — LW: 1

It should go without saying that since we think TCU should be in the College Football Playoff, we believe that the Horned Frogs are better than Baylor. But that could definitely change after this week because…

2. Baylor Bears (7-1, 10-1) — LW: 2

Everything hangs in the balance with both the final score and what actually happens between Baylor and Kansas State this weekend. If the Bears impress — and look a lot better than their jaunt against Texas Tech — it will be hard to avoid that head-to-head any longer.

3. Oklahoma Sooners (5-3, 8-3) — LW: 3

They didn’t play last week, but they remain here at third.

4. Kansas State Wildcats (7-1, 9-2) — LW: 4

Despite the dominance, beating up on Kansas keeps K-State at fourth. Defeating Baylor next week would certainly change things up in the power rankings, however.

5. West Virginia Mountaineers (5-4, 7-5) — LW: 6

Breaking a three-game winning streak, West Virginia finishes their year above .500 and deserve to play in a really good bowl game. Congratulations on their surprise season.

6. Texas Longhorns (5-4, 6-6) — LW: 5

Getting trounced at home by over 30 is not acceptable even it was TCU. Longhorns were completely lifeless on Thanksgiving night, but a 6-6 finish was honestly what most fans were hoping for. Maybe they can bowl against Notre Dame.

7. Texas Tech Red Raiders (2-7, 4-8) — LW: 7

What a good finish to the season after picking up a tough win against Iowa State and nearly picking off a CFP contender in Cowboys Stadium.

8. Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-5, 5-6) — LW: 8

Can the Cowboys stop their five-game losing streak?

9. Kansas Jayhawks (1-8, 3-9) — LW: 9

Kansas ended the season back to form after winning their lone Big 12 win over Iowa State and nearly toppling TCU by being uncompetitive against Oklahoma and Kansas State.

10. Iowa State Cyclones (0-8, 2-9) — LW: 10

They had a two touchdown lead in the second quarter, which is about as close to a Big 12 victory as they’ll see this year. Paul Rhoads is notorious for upsetting a big name opponent, but this team hasn’t shown any signs of doing that all season.
