By Brian Spaen
A day after Iowa State basketball guard Bryce Dejean-Jones was arrested for noise violations and having marijuana, the Ames police will not be filing any further charges after dropping the drug-related charge.

Dejean-Jones will still be facing two other simple misdemeanors — violating “nuisance party regulations” and a “noise violation” — after a judge dismissed the charge for “hosting a drug house” involving marijuana with a lack of probable cause. Since police wasn’t able to obtain any more evidence, they have pulled the drug investigation.
More details emerged throughout the day of how bad of a neighbor BDJ has been, though. His apartment, located at 1221 Mayfield Drive, has had between nine and 12 noise complaints since the beginning of the school year — and that’s to the police. All complaints were registered after 10:00 PM.
Even though the marijuana charge was dropped yesterday, Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg said that Dejean-Jones was still suspended for the game against Iowa. Hoiberg also clarified that there was nothing in any conduct policy that he followed. The decision to suspend BDJ was his own.
Luckily, the police dropping the drug investigation means that after the Iowa game, the Cyclones can look ahead to having Dejean-Jones for the rest of the year.
The Cyclones have a huge task ahead of them to beat the Hawkeyes in Iowa City without their second-leading scorer, but the decision by Hoiberg was ultimately the right one. Hoiberg was involved with fixing the problem and worked with both BDJ and the police. Violating the head coach’s trust deserves punishment from the team.
Luckily, the police dropping the drug investigation means that after the Iowa game, the Cyclones can look ahead to having Dejean-Jones for the rest of the year. Hopefully there will be no other distractions from a guy that may already be Hoiberg’s best transfer in his tenure at Iowa State.
