Cyclones in the NBA: Is DeAndre Kane headed to the Utah Jazz?

ByBrian Spaen|

Over the weekend, we wondered ifDeAndre Kanewould get a training camp invitefrom the Los Angeles Lakers. So far, nothing’s happened as of yet, and things are getting a little more interesting as they did invite a different guard that wasn’t apart of their summer league squad.

Lakerholicz, one of the many sports blogs that covers the Lakers, was responding to a question on Twitter on Kane’s potential of getting a camp invite, and they revealed that Michigan State’sKeith Applingwas signed to a non-guaranteed deal. But, they thought Kane could still get a shot.

@CliffTebownot sure, maybe. They already invited another guard in Keith Appling

More from Iowa State Cyclones

RealGM (via Lakers Nation) reported that the team signed Appling to a non-guaranteed deal, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Kane’s chances are shot. Like we talked about in our previous post, the Lakers are really thin in the guard position overall. At point guard, there’sJeremy Lin,Steve Nash, andJordan Clarkson. There’s more room to be had for them, and I’d be surprised after having a decent summer league with them that they wouldn’t give Kane a shot.

If it doesn’t work out with the Lakers, Kane will probably get a chance with a different team. A day prior to the Lakers signing Appling, it was reported that the Utah Jazz are looking at the former Iowa State guard to join their camp.

Some names for Jazz camp possible PG: Byrce Cotton (Providence) Jahii Carson (ASU) Deonte Burton (Nevada) DeAndre Kane (ISU) Aaron Craft

As of now, we can continue to suspect that Kane will be in the NBA in some fashion this season. Whether that will be with the Lakers, or getting his feet wet in the D-League, are all up in the air at the moment.
