Iowa State football may have found their replacement for Devine Ozigbo, who flipped his commitment to Nebraska. The Cyclones have gotten another 3-star running back from Georgia.

Joshua Thomas tweeted on Monday night that he will be committing to the “University of Iowa State,” which we’ll go ahead and assume he means Iowa State University.

Thomas was one of the many football prospects that came during the weekend that College GameDay made its visit for the Kansas-Iowa State basketball game. He made another official visit to Wisconsin last weekend. On Monday, he made up his decision.

Checking in at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, the inside linebacker and fullback is being recruited as a rushing weapon. According to 247Sports, he’s a 3-star recruit that’s the 29th best fullback in the country and 89th best prospect in the state of Georgia. Composite numbers are about the same (32nd best FB, 84th best in Georgia).

The running back from Buford, Georgia, received offers from Wisconsin, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ohio State, Purdue, South Florida, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Virginia. Two-thirds of 247Sports predicted that he would go to Tennessee while another recruiting writer said that he would go to Wisconsin. The Badgers were considered a favorite to land the back.

Want to see Thomas in action? Here’s over an 8-minute highlight package of his senior season from Hudl. According to Rivals, Thomas recorded 825 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground while totaling 63 tackles and 2 sacks on defense as a linebacker. For more videos, check out his Hudl page here.

Here’s a quote from the prospect on CycloneReport.com (via The Des Moines Register) on why the Cyclones wanted him.

"“(Iowa State assistant Maurice Linguist) told me I was their number one priority and probably would play a lot as a freshman, so that really caught my eye,” Thomas told CycloneReport.com earlier this month. “They like that I’m a power back and they’re looking for one of those this year. They had a speed back last year, but he wasn’t able to get them that third-and-1 or fourth-and-1.”"

It’s great to see the Cyclones be able to replace a stud like Ozigbo with somebody else in the same category. They are in dire need of a reliable back that can pick up short yardage. DeVondrick Nealy comes in as a junior next season and it would be great to compliment him with a power back that can get physical with other talented defensive lines.

After we get the school name thing cleared up, I’m sure Thomas will be a great addition to the Cyclone family.
