Iowa State football recruiting: Could JUCO defensive lineman flip to West Virginia?

Fallout of Iowa State football’s terrible season could result in another commit heading to a different school.

Zack Spears, former Cyclones recruiting reporter, tweeted that junior college defensive lineman Xavier Pegues still has West Virginia in play.

Pegues is listed as both a weak-side defensive end and a tight end at 247Sports. He’s a 3-star recruit that’s ranked 68th overall among all JUCOs, fourth-best WDE, and is 25th overall in the state of Mississippi. He’s currently listed at 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds.

The defensive lineman has received an offer from the Mountaineers and that’s the only school that appears in play at the moment. Other offers Pegues passed up on are Arkansas State, California, Georgia State, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas-San Antonio, and UAB.

Pegues committed to the Cyclones on October 13th but used one of his official visits with West Virginia on October 31st. Obviously, that visit started to waver his decision along with the ISU football team not delivering on the field.

If Pegues does flip to West Virginia or a different school, that would mark the second player since Iowa State’s loss to Kansas. This will be the second straight season that the Cyclones will miss a bowl game, and turmoil among the coaching staff is starting to brew as fans are starting to lose their cool with head coach Paul Rhoads.

One thing that fans who do want Rhoads out have to realize is there will be a whirlwind of decommits along with needing to bring in a whole new coaching staff if it does happen. We’ll continue to monitor Pegues’ commitment and we’ll see if he stays a Cyclone or heads to a different school.
