The Big Ten Network announced that they will be broadcasting the game with their schedule release on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for Friday, December 12th, at 7:00 PM Central time on BTN, and it will be available online via BTN2Go.
BTN highlighted the Cy-Hawk rivalry among their top games in the release. The network will show 77 Big Ten games, and they’ll show five conference tournament games — the most in their history.
Also to note: the network has picked up Iowa’s game against Northern Iowa on Saturday, December 20th. That game will come after Iowa State’s game against Drake in the Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
As of right now, there hasn’t been a network assigned to pick up Iowa State-Drake just yet, which tips off at 4:00 PM CT. It’s likely headed to Cyclones.tv/Mediacom, but there’s still an opening on ESPN2 and ESPNU to show the game. In fact, it fits in perfectly with ESPNU’s schedule as they have an opening between VCU and Cincinnati that tips off at 11:00 AM CT and Texas A&M vs Kansas State at Kansas City, Missouri at 6:00 PM CT.
That’s just speculation, however. I don’t know if ESPN’s non-conference schedule is finalized in basketball or if adding that game would go over the amount of games ESPN can show in their contract with the Big 12.
The only other game that needs to be finalized on Iowa State’s non-conference slate is the January 3rd matchup with South Carolina in Brooklyn, New York. That will likely be picked up by some ESPN network, and it will be amongst a number of Big 12 teams that will open conference play.
