Here’s the news from the Cyclones official athletic website press release:
"Iowa State senior wide receiver Jarvis West was named to the Paul Hornung Award Week Two Honor Roll, was added to the Hornung Award Watch List and named the College Football Performance Award Punt Returner of the Week after his outstanding performance over the weekend."
Probably the most stunning information was that West was the first person to throw for a touchdown, catch a touchdown pass, and run a special teams kick back for a touchdown in one game since 1998.
"West became only the third player in FCS or FBS to record a TD catch, TD pass and a punt return for a TD in a game since 1998. He is one of four Cyclones in school history to tally a punt return and kickoff return for a TD in a career (Tom Vaughn, Don Ferguson, Dick Howard). West returned a kickoff 95 yards for a TD vs. Texas Tech in 2013."
West is currently tied with Allen Lazard for 90 yards receiving, which both lead the team in that category. He is also responsible for three total touchdowns, a punt return average of 29.3 yards per return, and has the popular throw to Lazard for 29 yards.
It’s great seeing West being used heavily in Mark Mangino’s new system, and hopefully this is just the beginning to an explosive season for the senior wide receiver.
