A familiar announcer will be making an appearance for Iowa State’s season opener against North Dakota State on FOX Sports 1.

More from Football

Justin Kutcher is the play-by-play man and on the call with him will be Coy Wire as the color commentator. Wire serves as a college football studio contributor on FOX Sports 1 and normally was a part of the crew on Thursday nights last year.

Wire is a former college football and NFL linebacker, spending his college years at Stanford and had an 8-year career in the pros with the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons.

This won’t be a normal crew for college football on FOX Sports 1. They are covering four games in four days. Generally, newly hired Tim Brando will be calling Thursday night games and the best game on the network on Saturdays. He is calling FS1’s Thursday night game between Rutgers and Washington State.

Kutcher, formerly a main play-by-play announcer and sometimes doing double-duty on the weekends like Brando is doing this year, wasn’t even listed on the main broadcast crew list. It’s unknown how many games he’ll actually call this year, but he hasn’t been demoted. Instead, he’ll be found on select NFL games on Sunday.
