News roundup: Big 12 bowl predictions, Oklahoma LB Frank Shannon suspended

facebooktwitterreddit

Here’s the latest Big 12 news from around the league, including where the teams will be going bowling during the holidays, an Oklahoma linebacker getting suspended, and what the CBS Sports college football writers believe the predicted order of finish will be — and Iowa State isn’t a unanimous second-to-last pick!

More from Big 12 News

— Phil Steele predicted where he believes all the Big 12 teams will be bowling. Talking 12 breaks everything down, and Steele believes that six conference teams will get to six wins or better. Honestly, while Iowa State isn’t on the list, if all these Big 12 bowl predictions held true, it would be a fun postseason.

  • Liberty Bowl (Memphis, Tenn), Dec. 29 – Kansas State vs. Missouri
  • Russell Athletic Bowl (Orlando, Fla.), Dec. 29 – Texas vs. Notre Dame
  • Texas Bowl (Houston, Texas), Dec. 29 – Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M
  • Cotton Bowl, (Arlington, Texas), Jan. 1 – Baylor vs. Oregon
  • Sugar Bowl (National Semifinal in New Orleans), Jan. 1 – Oklahoma vs. Florida State
  • Cactus Bow (Tempe, Ariz.), Jan. 2 – Oklahoma State vs. Arizona State

You kidding? Two former Big 12 matchups? A ratings bonanza in the Longhorns and Irish? FINALLY BAYLOR VERSUS OREGON?!?!?! If that all happens I’m closing my laptop and throwing out the TV after this season, because it will never get better than that until college football adopts a 16-team playoff.

— Oklahoma linebacker Frank Shannon has been suspended by the university after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman. The woman didn’t press charges, but the university held their own internal investigation and found it appropriate to suspend him under Title IX. He will appeal.

— Rant Sports ranks the top 10 Big 12 games this season (not non-conference, actual conference games). Oklahoma was featured six times on the list, so as long as you have the Sooners on TV this season, two out of three times you’ll have one of the most important conference games on.

— CBS had their college football writers release their predicted order of finish in the conference. Kansas was a unanimous last place, but Iowa State wasn’t! Good old Jon Solomon had the Cyclones finishing all the way up at seventh above TCU (hmm…) and West Virginia while the rest of the field had them at ninth. ISU fans now have two buddies from CBS Sports to hang out at a bar with — Solomon and Gary Parrish.

Another “hmmm” is Tom Fornelli’s pick of Kansas State at sixth when everybody else had them at third. Fornelli’s the man, though, so every Wildcat fan should let that one slide.

— Texas and Kansas are the only Big 12 teams that are in the AVCA preseason rankings for volleyball. Iowa State and Oklahoma are receiving votes.
