The final three lists recognize college football’s top running back, quarterback, and best overall player. Iowa State’s Aaron Wimberly, as noted on Thursday, made the Doak Walker Award watch list.
Compared to the group, Wimberly may have to prove himself with an offense that’s unproven at the moment. The best candidates from the Big 12 are likely going to be Shock Linwood or one of the Texas backs
Obviously, quarterbacks dominate this part of watch lists, and Petty is likely to be a favorite from the group of quarterbacks in the Big 12. However, don’t sleep on Tyler Lockett, who will be a huge key to the Kansas State offense, and TCU defensive end Devone Fields was also named as the 2014 All-Big 12 preseason defensive player of the year.
