Iowa State recruiting: Waukee DE Anthony Nelson commits
By Brian Spaen
Iowa State handed out two offers to local in-state prospects last weekend, and less than 48 hours into the new workweek, they’ve already committed to the Cyclones.
A day after Bryce Meeker agreed to play for ISU, defensive end Anthony Nelson has decided to join on as well. Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune and Chris Williams of Cyclone Fanatic confirm what the player tweeted earlier today:
Rivals has the Waukee native listed as a 3-star recruit, but doesn’t have any national or state rankings. The defensive end checks in at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds, and has a 40-time of 4.9 seconds.
Nelson passes up offers from Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, South Dakota, and South Dakota State.
Some might be skeptical on Nelson’s weight, but he answers back in the Cyclone Fanatic write-up that he will add the weight.
"“They just think that I can be a really productive defensive end there,” Nelson said. “They are expecting me to put on some weight obviously but they expect that when I put on the weight for me to stay productive.”"
Nelson has the build and is a prospect in basketball as well, so athleticism and speed is not in the question. It will be interesting to how it all transpires in the next year.
