Iowa State men’s basketball: Rivalry game at Iowa receives date
By Brian Spaen
An official date has been set for the annual rivalry game between the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes in men’s basketball.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports tweets out that he’s learned the game will be played on Friday, December 12th.
The tradition of playing the game on a Friday night continues. That started all the way back in the 2004-05 season when Iowa was ranked 17th in the nation. Iowa State lost that contest, 70-63, on Friday, December 10th.
No network or time has been announced yet. Since both teams attract a lot of TV ratings, and not much college basketball is played on Fridays in the regular season, it could easily see itself on ESPNU again. Otherwise it will be on the Big Ten Network like it usually is.
Since the inception of BTN, this game has been shown on that network when the game is played at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Previous to that, the game was generally seen locally back when Big Ten games were syndicated on ESPN Plus.
What do you think about the Friday tradition? Do you like seeing the CyHawk men’s basketball game on Friday night or would you like to see it move to another night or sometime during the weekend?
