NCAA Baseball Championship 2014: Big 12 regional information for Day 3
By Brian Spaen
The Big 12 is on fire after the first two days of the NCAA Baseball Regional round as four of the five teams are one game away from moving on to the Super Regionals.
Kansas was the only loser yesterday, marking the Big 12 with its only blemish in a 9-1 record in Regional play. The Jayhawks lost 6-3 against Louisville last night. They’ll start things off early by taking on Kentucky in an elimination game in the Louisville Regional. If they win, they’ll have a rematch against the Cardinals.
It took 22 innings and into the early hours of the morning, but TCU finally held off Sam Houston State 3-2. The game was nearly reminiscent of Texas’ 25-inning marathon against Boston College years back.
The Longhorns ended play also in the early hours of the morning, but that was due to multiple rain delays in the Houston Regional. They finally got on the field at about 9:45 PM Central time, and after a pitching duel in the first seven innings, the Longhorns were victorious, 3-2, in 11 innings.
Oklahoma State dusted off Cal State Fullerton, 13-7, in their own Regional, while Texas Tech surprisingly blanked Miami (FL), 3-0.
