Iowa State men’s basketball countdown: Naz Long forces 3OT vs Oklahoma State

This begins a series of top 15 performances by the one and only Nazareth J. Long. Up first his the first 3-point killer against Oklahoma State.

One of the most thrilling games of the season, and arguably one of the best in the year of college basketball, came in a triple-overtime affair in Stillwater. Iowa State came away with a 98-97 victory.

DeAndre Kane and Melvin Ejim led the way combining for 48 points and 22 rebounds. But none of that would have mattered if Naz Long didn’t hit the 3-point basket with 1.4 seconds left in double overtime.

There were a lot of things in play in the closing seconds of that period. Matt Thomas couldn’t hit a late 3-pointer, but Kane was able to gather in the rebound. Knowing that he struggled to close the game out already multiple times, instead of taking the final shot for the Cyclones, Kane gives it up to Long, who didn’t make a 3-pointer for two weeks.

It all didn’t matter when Long made the shot. And that helped Iowa State win their first game in Stillwater since 1988.
