Iowa State football has brought in another assistant coach, and it’s Stan Eggen from Louisiana Tech in a shocking move.

From The News Star:

"Defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Stan Eggen has left the program, a spokesman confirmed Friday. A source close to the situation later said Eggen will accept an assistant position with Iowa State."

The source explains the move “as somewhat of a shock.” Louisiana Tech was heading in the right direction with their program after a great recruiting class and hiring former Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. Eggen was retained on the coaching staff after Skip Holtz took over as head coach. Holtz was fired from South Florida after the 2012 season

While it hasn’t been confirmed, Eggen will likely be coaching the defensive line, the same position he was at with Tech. He’ll replace the late Curtis Bray who died suddenly in last month.

UPDATE: The Cyclones’ official athletic website has given a release that states Eggen will be the defensive ends coach.

Eggen has been a coach on the Louisiana Tech staff for six seasons, four of them as a defensive line coach. Back in 2011 when the Bulldogs won the now-defunct Western Athletic Conference in football, his line accounted for 29 of the team’s 32 sacks.

Eggen was the linebackers coach for Tech for the first two seasons back in 2008. He’s also been on the coaching staff at Texas A&M, Alabama, TCU, and many more in over 30 years of coaching experience.
