National Signing Day 2014: Allen Lazard signs LOI to Iowa State

It didn’t take long for long-time commit Allen Lazard to officially become an Iowa State Cyclone.

One of the nation’s best prospects turned in his letter of intent at 7:11 AM Central time, the second Cyclone to become offical on National Signing Day.

Lazard picked Iowa State over traditional football powers such as Nebraska, Oregon, and Notre Dame. He also picked the Cyclones ahead of in-state rival Iowa, California, and Stanford.

The wide receiver from Urbandale is a four-star recruit across the board on recruiting websites. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and weighs 207 pounds.

Lazard never waivered once he committed to Iowa State all the way back in December 2012. It’s not a surprise at all to see him an official Cyclone bright and early on NSD.

Lazard has family connections in Iowa State. His father, Kevin, played as a defensive back from 1990 to 1993.

Other NSD notes:

  • Two big-time committments, cornerback Mike Johnson from Florida and running back Michael Warren from Oklahoma, officially signed shortly after 9:00 AM Central time. Both are 3-star recruits among many recruiting websites. Warren is the ninth-best RB in the state of Oklahoma by 247Sports.
  • Seven players from Texas have signed so far with the Cyclones, including quarterback Darius Lee-Campbell and running back Martinez Syria.
