From 247Sports’ Coaching Search:

"Jacksonville Jaguars defensive assistant Brandon Blaney will join the Iowa State staff, a source has informed CoachingSearch.com.Blaney will coach the offensive line, a position that came available when Chris Klenakis departed recently for the offensive line job at Louisville."

Blaney has ties to new Iowa State offensive coordinator Mark Mangino. The new offensive line coach was at Kansas from 2002-2009, similar to Mangino’s entire tenure with the Jayhawks.

Blaney went to Youngstown State and graduated with an education degree in 1998.  He coached at Oklahoma from 1999-2000, which included the 2000 National Championship victory over Florida State. He also coached at Ohio State in 2001 before spending eight years with Kansas.

With so much history with Mangino, not to mention an NFL team hired him for his services (even if it is Jacksonville…), this looks like a good move for the Iowa State football coaching staff that’s been decimated with departures and deaths so far this offseason.
