ESPN’s Joe Lunardi believes that the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes could be placed in the same region for the NCAA tournament, paving the way for a potential third round clash.

Out in the West region, Lunardi listed Iowa State as the fifth seed taking on the winner of the 12th seed game between Oregon and St. Mary’s. Iowa has the fourth seed and will take on North Dakota State.

If both the Cyclones and Hawkeyes were to advance, they would meet in a third round game. All of the action would take place at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington.

As a reminder, the first round in the NCAA tournament is now during the “First Four,” when the first four games of the tournament take place in Dayton, Ohio, and involve the last four teams that made the tournament.

Iowa State fell to a fifth seed after having a third seed in the East region in Lunardi’s prediction last week. They haven’t been higher in his bracketology.
