Iowa State football: Injury updates on Sam Richardson, Aaron Wimberly

Another week, another big slate of injuries for the Iowa State football team as they head to Manhattan to take on Kansas State. Quarterback Sam Richardson suffered head and neck injuries in the first half against Oklahoma State, and running back Aaron Wimberly never made it to the field. The question is, will either of them see time against the Wildcats?

According to Bobby La Gesse, Richardson was in practice on Tuesday, but head coach Paul Rhoads wouldn’t confirm if he would be the starter or not. Wimberly is likely out for the second straight week.

There goes my theory of Richardson undoubtedly being the starter for the rest of the year, barring injuries.

With a 1-6 record on the season, the chances of Iowa State making it to a bowl game are at a similar percentage to the Jacksonville Jaguars making it to the playoffs. An inconsistent offensive line will only hurt Richardson in the long run, and the coaching staff may consider pulling him back to recover and have a long offseason to get back to 100 percent.

That’s not saying their just going to throw Grant Rohach into the fire. This could be a good chance for the freshman to gain some experience and the offensive line looked the best they have all season against the Cowboys.

Other injuries for the Cyclones are wide receiver Jarvis West out indefinitely with a knee injury and the following three players; tackles Kyle Lichtenberg and Jacob Gannon, and tight end Ben Boesen, are all questionable for Farmageddon. Linebacker Luke Knott will need surgery for a hip and groin injury. He can play with the pain, but similar to Richardson, the better move may to do it now to get extended recovery time.
