Quarterback Sam Richardson and center Tom Farniok are listed as starters for Iowa State’s game against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Thursday night.
Both Richardson and Farniok were expected to start as they recover from their ankle and knee injuries, respectively. The backup listed for Farniok is Ben Loth, originally a third-string center that saw playing time against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Cyclones will hope that a second bye week in the first four weeks of the season will be enough to get Richardson back on track and become a dual threat quarterback. That and the return of Farniok should help a beaten and young offensive line.
Some other notes on the depth chart that was released today:
- James White is listed as the starter at tailback, with Shontrelle Johnson, Jeff Woody, Aaron Wimberly, and DeVondrick Nealy all listed as possible backups.
- Quenton Bundrage (Z), Justin Coleman (F), and Tad Ecby (X) will be the starting at the wide receiver positions. Bundrage currently leads all receivers with 10 catches for 177 yards and three touchdowns — the bulk of that coming against the Hawkeyes.
- Rodney Coe is listed as a backup at defensive tackle after suffering a shoulder injury. David Irving will make a third consecutive start.
