With this being Kirby Van Der Kamp’s final season, one of the Iowa State football team’s question marks will already be at the punting position. New commit Colin Downing will hope to fill the void.

Chris Williams from Cyclone Fanatic reports that Downing committed to the Cyclones on Friday afternoon. ESPN has rated him as a three-star recruit.

"Iowa State appears to have found its replacement for Kirby Van Der Kamp next season. On Friday afternoon, Whitefish Bay, Wisc. punter Colin Downing verbally committed to the Cyclones."

ESPN lists Downing at 6-foot and 170 pounds. He’s the 18th overall kicker and the 11th overall athlete in the state of Wisconsin for the class of 2014.

Iowa State beat out Toledo, who were the only other school to give Downing an offer. Other schools of interest were Miami (OH), Northern Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Williams also pointed to a Kohl’s Professional Camps website that profiles Downing, where they detail on the Wisconsin prospect’s punting abilities.

"Colin is a very solid college prospect as punter as well, won the punting competition at the Midwest Showcase Camp in Spring of 2013, very consistent punter, should draw college interest as a punter, has D1 punting tools, very smooth athlete, consistent performer"
