Will Clyburn’s offseason action isn’t over yet after participating in Reese’s College All-Star Game this past weekend. He’ll hope to improve his NBA draft stock by participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament beginning this Wednesday.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is a four-day event that invites 64 of the nation’s top senior prospects in the upcoming draft. Those players are divided into teams and will play a 12-game tournament. Some of the NBA’s greats, including Rick Barry, John Stockton, and Scottie Pippen have participated in the event.
Clyburn will join many other familiar names including Butler’s Rotnei Clarke, Kansas’ Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford, Oregon’s Arsalan Kazemi, Kansas State’s Rodney McGruder, Louisville’s Peyton Siva, and Syracuse’s James Southerland and Brandon Triche.
The team Clyburn will be playing with is an eight-man squad called the Norfolk Sports Club. Ironically, he’ll be playing alongside Notre Dame forward Jack Cooley just like he did on the West team in the all-star game. Antoine Walker will be an assistant coach on the team.
Norfolk Sports Club will open up the event against K & D Round’s Landscaping with tip-off at 6:00 p.m. CT. All the action takes place at the Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. No live coverage will be available on TV or online, but boxscores will be available on the main website after each game.
Recent former Iowa State Cyclones that have participated in this event include Jackson Vroman, Jared Homan, Marquis Gilstrap, and Diante Garrett, among others.
