Even though all three of the Big 12’s top teams (Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State) stumbled toward the finish line of the regular season, college basketball’s continuation of ranked teams falling made the slide less worse.
The Associated Press and Coaches Polls ranked the Jayhawks seventh and sixth, respectively, after losing to the Baylor Bears on Saturday. That’s a three-spot drop from their previous ranking in both polls.
Kansas State fell two spots to 11th (AP) and 12th (Coaches) while Oklahoma State fell one spot to 14th (AP) and 15th (Coaches).
Iowa State still doesn’t have any votes in either poll, but that was slightly expected even after defeating the Cowboys last Wednesday. Oklahoma finally didn’t receive a vote in the Coaches after an inexcusable loss at TCU last Saturday.
Kansas may have slipped up in regular season finale, but they’re still in play for a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. They will need to win the Big 12 Tourament and hope that Duke, Indiana, Louisville, and/or Georgetown loses early in their respective conference tournaments. At the moment, they are a lock for a 2-seed.
Over on the womens’ side, Iowa State moved up three spots to get back on the charts at 23rd, but it was likely short lived after getting blown out by top-ranked Baylor in the Big 12 Women’s Championship.
