Basketball Recruiting: Chris McCullough “Open” to All Offers
By Brian Spaen
It’s never too early to dive into the class of 2014 recruiting for basketball, and a couple of top athletes on ISU’s list have made news.
Five-star power forward, Chris McCullough, has announced that he “has no favorites at this time and is open in his recruitment,” according to a tweet from ISU Recruiting Info. However, according to his 247Sports’ page, the schools that he remains most interested in are Kansas, Connecticut, St. John’s, and Syracuse.
All four of those teams have given the 6-foot-8, 210-pound prospect from Salisbury, Connecticut, an offer. They join Iowa State, Arizona, Florida, Georgetown, Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, Hofstra, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Temple, Villanova, and West Virginia in all giving the athlete an offer.
McCullough is ranked 10th on 247Sports’ Top247 and is the top prospect in the state of Connecticut. Last season, he averaged 13.8 points a game and shot 37.5 percent from three-point range.
Another five-star prospect, Kevon Looney, is participating at the LeBron James Skills Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to ESPN high school recruiter, Joel Francisco, Looney is a standout at the event.
Looney currently only has five offers: Georgetown, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Iowa State remains interested in the athlete.
There are already comparisons to Kevin Durant in how Looney plays, and he can generally play at any position on the floor but is listed as a small forward on most recruiting sites. In an article by MaxPreps’ Greg Bates, Looney “duplicates Durant’s crossover dribble and his pull-up 3-pointers in transition,” but he wants to play like his idol, Kobe Bryant.
The 6-foot-6, 175-pound recruit from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is ranked seventh in 247Sports’ Top247 and is the top prospect in the state.
