Jarrod Uthoff Visits; Big 12 Names New Commissioner; Cleyon Laing Drafted By Argos

Just to catch up a little bit since I’ve been busy lately.

–  So, Jarrod Uthoff, the Iowa native that Bo Ryan wouldn’t let transfer from Wisconsin, visited Iowa State today.  He still didn’t make his decision today, but I have a good feeling that Fred Hoiberg left a great impression.

–  After the Big 12 let go of Dan Beebe and Chuck Neinas was made the interim commissioner, the Big 12 has found their guy in Bob Bowlsby.  Bowlsby has been Stanford’s Athletic Director since 2006.  I like this hire considering Stanford’s success in sports during that time.  The football team went to two BCS bowls and the women’s basketball team has been successful too.  Oh yea, he was born in Iowa and served as Iowa’s Athletic Director in the past too.

I can already here the Hawkeye fans:

"hahaha Big 12 has to hire an ex-Hawkeye to run that crappy conference and the sucky Clownz."

–  Cleyon Laing was selected ninth overall in the CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts.  Although his goals are probably joining the NFL, I think it is pretty cool that he was picked that high.  I wish him luck and am happy as I have always considered myself an Argos fan even though I have never watched a game…

Toronto’s GM:

"Cleyon is a strong, physical presence inside; he’s a big man with great athleticism and these types of players don’t come along every year. He had a great spring at Iowa State and he has one more year of eligibility there. This is a pick for the future and we’re thrilled to have been able to select him ninth overall."

Laing:

"I’m excited to get an opportunity to play in Toronto. I haven’t been to Toronto since I was a young kid so I’m excited to get back. I’m also a Raptors and Jays fan so I look forward to going to their games. I’ve been training and working hard to finish out my college career."

–  And, you missed it, the new Cy Hawk Trophy was chosen.
