Bo Ryan Lets Jarrod Uthoff Loose; Paul Rhoads Adds Former Arizona St. Basketball Player Chanse Creekmur

There are a couple developing stories going on with the Cyclones this afternoon.  First, Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan is letting former “Mr. Basketball” in Iowa talk to any school outside of the Big Ten.  Secondly, former Marshalltown prep star, Chanse Creekmur is joining Iowa State’s football team after playing basketball last year for Arizona State.

I’ll start with the Bo Ryan-Jarrod Uthoff saga.  Here’s a clip from an ESPN report:

"Wisconsin athletic officials, after meeting Thursday with basketball player Jarrod Uthoff, have agreed to lift all transfer restrictions except for Big Ten schools for the redshirt freshman. The university said in a statement that Uthoff meet Thursday with associate athletic director Justin Doherty and athletic director Barry Alvarez, as part of the appeal process.Doherty, Alvarez and basketball coach Bo Ryan then met and decided to lift “permission to contact” restrictions on any school outside of the Big Ten Conference, the school said. Ryan supported lifting the restrictions outside of the Big Ten, according to the university."

For some reason, Bo Ryan restricted Uthoff to talk to Iowa State, Marquette, and any ACC schools.  Really bizarre considering Wisconsin doesn’t play Iowa State.  I’m happy that this whole ordeal is finally over.  Bo Ryan has been known to be a good guy in college basketball but he was villainized in the past couple days.

Anyways, you got to believe that Iowa State is one of Uthoff’s favorites right now.  Although Hoiberg hasn’t said anything about Uthoff  yet, I like his chances to end up in Ames.  You can see his Rivals profile here.

In more breaking news, former Marshalltown quarterback Chanse Creekmur is going to walk-on with the Cyclone football team.  At Marshalltown, Creekmur lead his team to the 4A Championship Game where he would eventually lose.  Creekmur spent the last two seasons playing basketball for Arizona State.  He averaged 4.7 PPG last year for the Sun Devils.

In this Times Republican article, he says that Rhoads will let him try quarterback at first and then maybe switch his position.  I haven’t seen Creekmur play, but it will be tough for him to get any playing time at quarterback.  Steele Jantz, Jared Barnett, Sam Richardson, and Grant Rohach are probably all ahead of him.  Maybe he turns out to better than I think, who knows.
