Tavon Sledge and Jordan Railey Leaving Iowa State

Today, news came from Ames that both Tavon Sledge and Jordan Railey are both transferring to other schools.  The reason for the transfer is to get more playing time at another school.  Both averaged less than four minutes per game and with recruits and other transfers possibly coming in, it didn’t look like they were going to get much more.

From a release from Iowa State’s athletic website:

"“We certainly appreciate the work and effort Jordan and Tavon have given our program,” Hoiberg said. “It basically boiled down to playing time for both of them. I had great conversations with Jordan and Tavon after the season ended and we mutually agreed that their chances for increased playing time would be at another school. Jordan and Tavon are great kids and we will do everything we can to assist them finding the right fit.”"

I don’t blame either for their decision and I wish them luck wherever they end up going.

Now that opens up two more scholarships.  There have been rumors that Arizona State’s second leading scorer and leading rebounder, Trent Lockett, is on his way to Ames.  There are also other transfers that could end up at Iowa State like UCONN’s Alex Oriakhi.  One player that I think deserves a scholarship is Bubu Palo who has worked hard for it.  You can argue that Fred Hoiberg should use it on a more talented player, but Bubu finds ways to get the job done and I believe, is really underappreciated.
