Iowa State Gets Revenge and Upsets #5 Kansas, 72-64

Hilton Magic was in full effect today as Iowa State snapped a long losing streak to Kansas.  It was Iowa State’s first win over a top 5 team at home in over ten years.  Sold out Hilton Coliseum was rocking the entire game and it felt like the Oklahoma State football game.  The Cyclones got their signature win and barring disaster, should get into the NCAA tournament.  I think it is now official, Iowa State basketball is back!

So many Iowa State players played great games and stepped up to the competition.  The game was back-and-forth and for awhile it looked like Kansas was going to pull away (like they did earlier in the season).  However, down the stretch the Cyclones started to make the big plays.  Royce White and the Clones were making free throws and Chris Babb sealed it with a huge 3-pointer.

For the most part, Iowa State’s defense controlled one of the best players in the nation in Thomas Robinson.  Robinson only had 13 points and limited him to 7 rebounds.  The story of the game was Iowa State’s ability to own the glass against the best rebounding team in the Big 12.  The Cyclones out-rebounded the Jayhawks, 34-19.

Royce White was the man again for the Cyclones today.  White had another great day, finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.  I can’t describe how big Royce has been for the Clones the entire season.  Ejim has been on a roll lately as he had 15 points and 8 boards.  Scotty had 14 and Tyrus McGee, who keeps awing State fans had 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Iowa State is now 15-6 and 5-3 in conference (I love writing that).  Iowa State has another key game coming up as they host ranked K-State on Tuesday.
