4-Star Receiver, D’Vario Montgomery, Visiting Iowa State Tomorrow

According to multiple sources, 4-star WR D’Vario Montgomery will be on an official visit to Iowa State tomorrow.  He will be attending the sould out Iowa State-Kansas basketball game.  Montgomery has an impressive offer list that includes Arkansas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and many other great programs.  Montgomery currently has a verbal commitment to South Florida, but hopefully tomorrow can change his decision.  Montgomery has several connections to Iowa State which I will get into detail below.

First, D’Vario and current Cyclone QB Sam Richardson went to the same high school (Winter Park in Florida) and were teammates.  It isn’t like these two didn’t know eachother and were on different sides of the ball.  Montgomery has probably caught more passes from Sam Richardson than any other quarterback on the planet.  You got to think that Richardson has been lobbying D’Vario to come to Iowa State and play in the Big 12, the conference with the best receivers in college football.

Another link to the Cyclones is who recruited D’Vario; Todd Fitch.  You may recall that Todd Fitch was Iowa State’s quarterback coach from 2004 to 2006.  I’ve read some of other people speculating that maybe Fitch is leaving USF to come back to Ames.  Remember, this is just speculation.  However, it makes some sense that Fitch might be taking the current opening that is the quarterbacks coach and is bringing Montgomery with him.  It makes you wonder, why would Montgomery be taking an official visit so late in the recruiting season to Iowa State and not to other powers like Alabama or Arkansas?  Rivals.com says that Montgomery has only been on two visits (South Florida and Maryland), so Iowa State has a chance to win over the heart of Montgomery.

It may sound crazy, but I somewhat believe that Montgomery will make a switch.  If Iowa State does land this incredible player, it will definitely be the biggest recruit in this year’s class and one of the best in ISU’s history.  Also, it can’t hurt that the future of the Big East is uncertain and it might scare Montgomery away.  Montgomery could come in and immediately and make a difference for the Cyclones.  Signing Day is less than a week away, will D’Vario Montgomery be ISU’s next big player?  We’ll have to wait and see.
