Wow.  The Iowa State linebacking core just got that much better.  With both Jake Knott and A.J. Klein coming back next year, new commit Eddie Porter may play in between them.  With Matt Tau’fo’ou graduating, Porter is a likely replacement at middle linebacker.

Eddie Porter was a commit to Texas A&M but with the recent news of Mike Sherman being released at Texas A&M, Porter decommitted.  Shortly after, Porter committed to Paul Rhoads and Iowa State.

Rivals.com has the 6’3, 245 pound linebacker as a 3-star recruit.  They also had them listed 16th in their 2012 JUCO Proepect Rankings and Porter was the top linebacker on the list.  Usually, Iowa State loses recruits to Big 12 schools and other bigger programs.  Not this time.  Besides A&M, Porter had offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Mississippi State, and Washington State.

Eddie Porter plays at Blinn Community College in Texas.  Blinn is the same school that produced Heisman winner Cam Newton and future Cyclone DE, Ishmail Hayes.  Ishmail Hayes and Porter are both currently teammates at Blinn and great friends.
