Sooners End Iowa State’s Winning Streak, 26-6

Iowa State was riding a three-game winning streak coming into today’s game in Norman.  Jared Barnett was the new quarterback and he had the offense rolling in all three of the games.  The same could not be said today.

The Cyclones got off to a nice start, Albert Gary caught a deflected pass for a touchdown which put the Clones up 6-3.  They were leading the Sooners after the end of the first quarter even though they were heading into the wind the whole quarter.  However, after the touchdown, almost nothing happened on that side of the ball for the rest of the day.

Iowa State should have scored a couple more points but they killed themselves with turnovers.  The exchange between Jared Barnett and James White resulted in two lost fumbles for the Clones.  Jared Barnett also threw an interception and right before halftime, ISU dropped a kickoff which gave the Sooners a field goal to put them up 23-6 at the half.

The offense struggled more in the second half.  The Sooners could have made it ugly, but Iowa State’s defense played great throughout the whole game.  Reeves, Knott, and Benton all had an interception today and Benton also recovered a fumble.  The Clones only allowed 3 points the entire second half.  The defense was definitely a bright spot today for Iowa State.

Barnett only completed 13 out of 28 passes for a TD and an INT.  James White was not a factor today as he only carried the ball twice for a combined -13 yards.  With White not getting many carries, Woody had a decent game with 60 yards on 13 carries.  Also, Albert Gary continues to play well as he led the team with 52 yards receiving.

The Cyclones are now 6-5 and will travel to “The Little Apple” to take on Kansas State.  Check ClonesConfidential.com later for more postgame coverage and notes.
