Player and Play of the Week: Texas Tech
By Ross
Player of the Game – Jared Barnett
A lot of players deserved to be Player of the Week but I’m giving it to Jared Barnett. He made his first career start Saturday and it came against a ranked team on the road. He did almost everything right for his first start. He controlled the offense and sustained some long drives that kept Tech’s explosive offense off the field which was huge. He completed 14 of 26 passes for 144 yards and a TD. When things weren’t open downfield, he beat Texas Tech with his legs. He ran the ball 19 times for 92 yards including a touchdown. Also, he didn’t turn the ball over which was exactly what he needed to do. I was more than impressed with Barnett and can’t wait to see what he can do against a poor Jayhawks defense.
Play of the Game – Duran Hollis’s 71-yard touchdown run
The Cyclones were up 24-7 at half and got the ball back to start the second half. On the third play of the half, freshman RB Duran “Duck” Hollis busted a 71-yard touchdown run. It pretty much sealed the deal for the Cyclones and sent a lot of the Red Raider fans home to the exits. Credit the offensive line for making a huge hole for Hollis.
