From the Washington Post:

"The Redskins have signed defensive end Jake McDonough to a contract, his agent, Glen Lansky said Wednesday afternoon.McDonough had a workout with Washington earlier Wednesday and then signed his deal."

With an injury to cornerback Courtney Bridget, the Redskins waived him and he would be back on the team if a different team doesn’t decide to pick him up.

McDonough, locally from Urbandale, Iowa, recorded 36 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and broke up 2 passes in his senior season with the Cyclones. He was picked up by the New York Jets in 2013, cut in July, played in the Arena Football League, and then joined the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad last December.

Cyclones in the NFL quick hits

— In a New York Jets scrimmage on Saturday, the defense dominated, holding quarterback Geno Smith to completing 7-of-14 passes for 84 yards. ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini labeled cornerback Jeremy Reeves as one of the standouts on defense, reeling in an interception. That’s good news after learning that Reeves didn’t finish practice with a hamstring injury on Friday.

— ESPN Cleveland Browns reporter Pat McManamon discussed a few scuffles that happened on Day 4 of training camp on Tuesday night. One of them involved Ahtyba Rubin.

"Linebacker Eric Martin was probably as responsible as anyone for starting the tussles that “highlighted” practice. Martin threw Dion Lewis to the ground in a nine-on-nine run drill, then taunted the offense. Shortly after Ben Tate was throwing the ball at Ahtyba Rubin (the two made amends after practice)."

— Linebacker Nick Barnett is still a target for the Atlanta Falcons despite the team picking up former Cyclone Tim Dobbins.

— As of the latest camp report on Saturday, Indianapolis Colts receiver Josh Lenz is not playing with a hamstring injury.
