Iowa State football: E.J. Bibbs tops multiple preseason All-Big 12 honors

E.J. Bibbs is listed on the first team for All-Big 12 honors in five different college football preseason magazines.

Iowa State’s official athletic website compiled where all the Cyclones were at inside Athlon’s, Lindy’s, the Sporting News, Phil Steele, and Bleacher Report’s All-Big 12 teams. Bibbs was unanimously on the first team.

"Bibbs will no doubt be one of the top tight ends in the nation in 2014. The Chicago, Ill., native was an All-Big 12 Second-Team selection in 2013, ranking second on the team in catches (39) and receiving yards (462). His 39 catches ranks as the second-most by a Cyclone tight end in school history and tied for 13th among all FBS tight ends."

Center Tom Farniok is the only other player that’s listed in all five magazines. However, Athlon’s and Phil Steele goes a bit deeper with their rankings giving us a little inconsistency.

Wide receiver Quenton Bundrage is ranked highest in Athlon’s on the second team. He is on the third team in Phil Steele. Running back Aaron Wimberly is on two second teams (Athlon’s and Lindy’s) and is on the fourth team in Phil Steele.

Preseason hype is pretty high on Wimberly. Despite having some injury issues last year it’s expected that he’ll be the leader unless something else emerges in fall camp. Bundrage will have the same expectations as a leader among the group of receivers.

In comparing magazines, Bleacher Report seems to have the biggest difference from anybody else. They have cornerback Nigel Tribune, who a lot of us are anticipating to be a solid defender, on the second team while he doesn’t make anything other team or even an honorable mention in the other magazines.

B/R also has Tom Farniok as an honorable mention while he is on the second team or higher in three of the other four magazines (Athlon’s, Lindy’s, Sporting News).
