The Iowa State football team has received their second verbal commitment in the same number of days, this time from local Iowan Seth Nerness.

Cyclone Recruiting had the announcement on Twitter today that the all-around athlete has committed to the Cyclones.

Rivals only has him as a two-star prospect with no national rankings, but 247Sports’ composite rankings (which evaluate what numerous scouting websites are reporting) has him as a 3-star athlete and the sixth-best player in Iowa.

Nerness commits to Iowa State over other offers from Kansas State and Western Illinois. There was also interest in Cincinnati and Iowa.

The athlete from Murray, Iowa, checks in at 6-foot-3, weighs 224 pounds, and runs a 40-time of 4.53 seconds. He is now the fifth verbal commitment in the class of 2015.

Nerness is an extraordinary skill player that can play at many different positions. It looks like he’s being recruited as a defensive end, but just for kicks, here are his offensive numbers in his last two seasons at Murray (via Rivals):

  • 2012: 1,133 rushing yards on 127 attempts, 18 touchdowns (13 games)
  • 2012: 342 receiving yards on 17 catches, 6 touchdowns (13 games)
  • 2013: 856 rushing yards on 96 attempts, 14 touchdowns (11 games)
  • 2013: 114 receiving yards on 7 catches, 2 touchdowns (11 games)

Nerness was offered back in December and an update earlier this month showed that he was favoring the Cyclones over the team he grew up cheering for, the Iowa Hawkeyes. At that time, ISU was the only school that gave him an offer according to 247Sports.

He also had a strong interest in Kansas State, who did ultimately give him an offer.
