Iowa State men’s basketball: Percy Gibson will transfer to Oakland University

After announcing his transfer from Iowa State after the basketball season was over, Percy Gibson will be finishing his basketball career at Oakland University.

Gibson informed everyone of his decision on his Twitter account.

The Cyclones’ former center saw a severe decrease in playing time in his third season with the team. He averaged 12.1 minutes per game in 2012-13, but just 5.1 minutes in 2013-14. He only attempted 15 field goals and seven free throws in just 71 total minutes of action.

With all the transfers coming in for next season, Gibson saw the writing on the wall but still wanted to play the sport he loved. He’ll get a chance to do that at Oakland University.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are located in Rochester, Michigan and play in the Horizon League. They finished sixth in the conference last season with a 13-20 record overall, 7-9 in the conference.

Gibson’s hometown is in Detroit, Michigan, and this new move gives him both a better chance to obtain some minutes on the court and he’ll be closer to home so his family can watch him play.

Despite criticisms on Gibson, he always played tough on the court when given the opportunity and we appreciate all the effort he’s given with the Cyclones. Wish him the best in his future at Oakland.
