Iowa State recruiting: Cyclones offer Florida athlete Jeff Smith

Iowa State has given an offer to Jeff Smith, a Florida athlete that mostly plays at the quarterback position.

Smith tweeted out that he has received an offer from the Cyclones.

"Offered by Iowa State today!! #cyclONEnation #Cyclones"

Smith doesn’t have any rankings currently at 247Sports, but he does have offers from Akron, Army, Boston College, Indiana, and Wisconsin. He checks in at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds with a 40-yard dash time of 4.52 seconds.

Jeff Smith is an all-around athlete at Clearwater who’s played on both sides of the ball. According to MaxPreps, in his junior season, at quarterback, he’s completed 93 of 169 passes for 1,366 yards with seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

He carried the ball 82 times for 611 yards for seven touchdowns. He has also fumbled the ball eight times and lost three of those. He’s recorded 20 tackles and a kick return for 15 yards in his sophomore season.

Smith will likely be recruited as a quarterback, but his versatility shows that he could be looked at in other positions. What I like seeing in his highlight videos over at Hudl is him not always looking to run with the ball although he definitely has his legs as an alternative weapon.

He’ll drop back and quickly make decisions. That’s also probably what has led to plays ending in more interceptions than touchdowns, but there’s more than enough time for Smith to become more efficient.
