Naz Long‘s domination on the Iowa State men’s basketball countdown concludes with his second huge 3-pointer against Oklahoma State.
I’d be open to have a discussion on which 3-pointer by Long was the best against the Cowboys, but here’s why I think the the second one was better. It was to protect home court domination.
The Cyclones only lost to Kansas at home this season, making Hilton Coliseum one of the toughest places to play in all of college basketball. In a game that featured Melvin Ejim fouling out with 3:42 to go, Marcus Smart took the game over and the momentum.
Looking back, the Cowboys could have won the game at the line. With 29 seconds to go, there were three instances where Oklahoma State, two times from Smart and once from Phil Forte at the end of the game, made the front end of two free throw attempts.
Forte’s big second miss would have even clinched it because Iowa State would have been down by four. You simply can’t leave that door open, even just the slightest at Hilton Coliseum, because the Cyclones always have a chance there.
Plus, John Walters’ call never gets old on the call. Never.
