Iowa State football: Will Paul Rhoads search for JUCO transfer to solve quarterback issues?

Among the Iowa State football team’s issues this season, the quarterback position has been a disaster. One idea that’s been floating around is the potential to bring in a junior college transfer if head coach Paul Rhoads didn’t think that either Sam Richardson or Grant Rohach were the answer.

Don’t expect that to happen.

From the Shreveport Times:

"The Iowa State coach was asked during his weekly press conference if he would try to sign a junior-college quarterback for next season.“No,” Rhoads quickly responded."

There were mixed results after bringing in Steele Jantz a few years ago, but one could argue that he’s looked better than the entire rotation of Richardson, Rohach, and formerly Jared Barnett. It certainly worked under the Dan McCarney era with Seneca Wallace, who lifted the program to its better seasons in history.

Instead, the Cyclones will focus next season on the current quarterbacks who are in the rotation with the addition of Joel Lanning and Trevor Hodge, who are both redshirting this season.

Cyclone fans that want to get excited over a JUCO transfer won’t get their wish, but all four quarterbacks will have a full offseason under Rhoads, and there’s plenty of young and incoming skill players that can aid the QBs.
