Another award is given to an Iowa State Cyclone this week, and for the first time in his career Jarvis West gets it for his special teams performance against Texas Tech last Saturday.

Here’s the blurb from Big 12 Sports on West’s achievement:

"Jarvis West returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in Iowa State’s first score of the game at Texas Tech. It was the first time ISU returned a non-onside kickoff for a touchdown since Troy Davis did it in 1994. The 95-yarder was the third-longest kickoff return in school history. West also had four punt returns for 46 yards, including a 38-yarder in the third quarter."

West had an early upper hand on the special teams award after taking that kickoff return to the house early in the first quarter.

Other award winners were Red Raiders quarterback Davis Webb receiving offensive honors with his 415 passing yards and three touchdowns while Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Chris Whaley got defensive honors for his four tackles and a pick-six in the upset over the Oklahoma Sooners.

This is the first time that all three players honored this week received the Big 12’s weekly awards.
