Going to the tailgate lots around Jack Trice Stadium and/or the game on Thursday night? Better bring a poncho, and be prepared in case weather delays or postpones the game between the Iowa State Cyclones and Texas Longhorns.

From Weather Underground’s forecast  for Thursday night (as of Wednesday night):

"Partly cloudy with thunderstorms and rain showers, then a chance of a thunderstorm and a chance of rain after midnight. Low of 64F. Winds less than 5 mph. Chance of rain 70% with rainfall amounts near 0.3 in. possible."

The latest forecast calls for a cold front to move into the state of Iowa beginning Wednesday night, and will be affecting the Ames area throughout Thursday and Friday. The worst of this will be on Friday, when Ames is expected to receive about 1.5 inches of rain by the end of the day.

We won’t be getting as much rain on Thursday, but lightning delays are a strong possibility. Hopefully the strong weather stays away or at least doesn’t get here until after the game.

Now to whether this benefits either Texas or Iowa State? It’s a bit of a wash (no pun intended). Both teams will likely try to establish the run, and the threat of deep throws by either team could be incredibly small depending on when and how hard the rain strikes.
