The Big 12 went 5-3 in another so-so weekend that didn’t involve many teams covering their large Vegas spreads. If there’s any glimmer of hope for the Iowa State Cyclones, their upcoming games against Tulsa and Texas don’t seem as tough as they were before the season began.

Texas Tech 20, (24)TCU 10

Horned Frogs fans should be upset in the loss that ended with a bad call by the officials. They had over 400 yards of total offense and dominated the running game. Perhaps they could have gotten the win if it wasn’t for the slow start. The Red Raiders could have gone up three touchdowns very early.

The Sooners’ missing offense is back, picking up 607 total yards and destroying the Golden Hurricanes in both phases of the game. You’re saying the Cyclones have a shot in their rubber match against them in two weeks?

Rice 23, Kansas 14

Quarterback play was brutal with both starters having a QB rating under 16.1. Jayhawks running back James Sims was used steadily and picked up over 100 yards on 19 carries, but he couldn’t outmatch Owls running back Charles Ross who carried it eight more times for a 157-yard total and one touchdown.

It’s time to push the panic button in Austin. At least the Longhorns held the Rebels to 272 total rushing yards, half of the amount given up to BYU a week ago. Colt McCoy played for an injured David Ash and played well, but completed just 4 of 15 third-down conversions.
