The Iowa State men’s basketball team lost 78-76 against Oklahoma State on Wednesday, falling to 4-3 in the Big 12 and just 1-3 on the road in the conference. The Cyclones are just 3-6 away from Hilton Coliseum this season.
“This team has been through a lot of adversity and that’s when that comes in, that experience from that helps you become stronger, and you just fight through it. That’s kind of what we did tonight.” – Marcus Smart
“We put ourselves in a bad situation. On the road, you can’t leave it up to the refs. We let them go on a run there toward the last couple of minutes. If we had gotten some stops there, we’d be walking out of here with a win.” – Chris Babb
“If you get fouled and you don’t have the ball in your hands, it’s player control and they called him for a push before the ball got there. It’s player control. That’s a player control foul. I’m glad they figured it out.” – Travis Ford
Markel Brown picked up his offense late in the game scoring nine points in the final 10:10 of the game. He finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Despite the total attendance of just 8,776, the crowd came to life at Gallagher-Iba Arena during the Cowboys’ many runs to stay in the game.
Phil Forte was a huge spark off the bench for Oklahoma State, scoring 17 points by hitting three 3-point shots and going 4-5 from the free throw line. Both Forte and Nash hit nine of the teams’ 14 free throws.
“It’s been three tough ones since I’ve been here. We lost in overtime, last year’s ending didn’t turn out well, and then Smart ended it tonight. It’s a tough place to play.” – Fred Hoiberg
