Cy’s Big 12 Football Picks: Week 5

facebooktwitterreddit

Cy nearly went perfect last week, going 4-1 in a way that you may not expect. He did pick the Kansas State upset over Oklahoma, but chose Kansas to pull off the upset at Northern Illinois. It looked for three quarters, but he even lost the spread when the Huskies won it by 10.

It’s an even shorter slate of action in the Big 12 this week with just four games, but three of them are huge conference matchups.

Overall record: 25-5, at the spread: 6-14 … All games are on Saturday and all times are listed as CT. All rankings are based off the Fansided Top 25. Teams underlined means Cy is picking them to beat the spread. Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma have a bye this week.

11:00 am – (25)Baylor at (6)West Virginia
Line: WVU -11 | TV: FX

I can’t think of a better way to prepare for Geno Smith by playing two quarterbacks at once like Baylor did a week ago. But Bears can’t keep up with Mountaineers. Prediction: WVU

6:00 pm – (15)Texas Christian at Southern Methodist
Line: SMU +16 | TV: FOX Sports Networks

Last time I saw SMU they got throttled by Baylor. Is Garrett Gilbert still at quarterback? Alrighty then. Prediction: TCU

6:00 pm – Texas Tech at Iowa State
Line: ISU +3 | TV: FOX College Sports

We’ll make it three straight against the Red Raiders. All I keep hearing is how this defense is “so improved.” Iowa State would look like Alabama if Ames High played against them, too. Prediction: Tommy Tuberville’s hot seat countdown

6:50 pm – (11)Texas at Oklahoma State
Line: OSU +2.5 | TV: FOX

Speaking of soft schedules, we’ll finally see what team is legit between these two. I think Texas pulls away in the second half. Longhorns scored 35 points against an old lady while those Cowboys gave up 36 against some cacti and desert. Prediction: TEX
