Football Depth Chart: Cornerbacks

The defensive backs feature the most newcomers on the Iowa State football program, especially in the cornerback position. Luckily, there’s a veteran that’s coming off of a fantastic season.

Jeremy Reeves is a 5-foot-7, 166-pound senior that looks a little weak physically for the position but is one of the most athletic players on the defensive side of the ball. Last year, the left cornerback had 69 tackles (54 solo tackles), three tackles for loss, seven passes batted down, two interceptions, and two fumbles forced.

Reeves was responsible for nine tackles in the upset victory over Oklahoma State, and had a career-high 10 tackles against Connecticut and tied it against Texas A&M.

Sam Richardson and Kenneth Lynn are listed as redshirt freshman behind Reeves. Richardson came in as a quarterback after setting records for passing yards and touchdowns with 2,742 yards and 35 touchdowns with Winter Park High School from Florida. Lynn had 42 tackles, broke up 16 passes, and returned three of four interceptions for touchdowns as a senior with Kimball from Texas.

On the right side, Jansen Watson is the lead man after finally getting a start against Missouri last season. He had 12 tackles overall last season, including a career-high four stops against Texas Tech.

Redshirt sophomore Matthew Thomas and junior Cliff Stokes are behind Watson. Thomas played in six games last season while Stokes is a JUCO transfer from Trinity Valley that had 35 tackles and broke up 16 passes.
