Oklahoma State Upset Ranks 11th On ESPNU Top 25 Countdown

Throughout the week, ESPNU has been showing nearly non-stop coverage of a top 25 countdown of the best college football games of last season. Obviously, the double-overtime thriller between Iowa State and Oklahoma State was a likely candidate for this list.

As expected, the game that kept the Cowboys from getting to the national title clocked in at 11th place. It’s the Cyclones’ only appearance on the countdown, but Oklahoma State has two more games on the list.

In ninth place, it was the shootout with Kansas State (the Cowboys ultimately winning it 52-45) that took place at the same time the acclaimed “game of the century” between LSU and Alabama was played. The Fiesta Bowl was in sixth place, which the Cowboys took that one against Stanford, 41-38.

The other games above the big upset in Ames includes the Rose Bowl between Wisconsin and Oregon (the Ducks won it 45-38), the Outback Bowl between Michigan State and Georgia (Sparty took it by a field goal), and Baylor’s first ever victory against Oklahoma.

ESPNU’s top 25 countdown will conclude tomorrow night. The final five games from fifth to first: USC over Oregon (38-35), Michigan over Notre Dame (35-31), Stanford over USC (56-48), Baylor over TCU (50-48), and Michigan State over Wisconsin (37-31), which included the hail mary completion to give the Spartans the victory.

The top five games were voted on by the public via ESPN SportsNation poll.
