Offensive Player of the Week: Oklahoma State

facebooktwitterreddit

Jared Barnett, a freshman quarterback, just knocked off the #2-ranked team in the nation.  So far in his young career, Barnett is 3-0 with 2 wins over ranked opponents.  Entering the game, I (and others) thought that Cyclones would really try to establish the running game.  Instead, Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman attacked the Pokes through the air.  Barnett threw 58 passes and completed 31 of them for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Once again, he was also a factor on the ground as he rushed for 84 yards.

What is most impressive is his maturity and his calmness throughout the game.  For a little while in the game, it looked like Oklahoma State was going to run away but Barnett kept playing even after throwing a pick 6 earlier in the game.  At the end of the game and in overtime, he was calm and collective even though he was playing in front of a national audience.  Pretty amazing considering he is only 19 years old.

This guy can be special in the future.  Look what he’s done so far in three games as a freshman.  I cannot wait to see what he accomplishes before his time at Iowa State is over.
