Around the Big 12: Week 3

facebooktwitterreddit

Kansas – Got shellacked by in Atlanta against Georgia Tech, 66-24.  Tech had 768 yards of total offense against the Jayhawks.  The Jackets outscored KU 28-0 in the third quarter alone.  After a bye week, Kansas will host Texas Tech.

Texas – Texas improves to 3-0 after a 49-20 beating of UCLA at the Rose Bowl.  Last year, UCLA shocked the Horns in Austin in what was the beginning of a terrible season.  Malcom Brown rushed for over a 100 yards against the Bruins.  With Case McCoy at QB, look for Texas to do some big things this year.

Texas Tech – Tech beat New Mexico easily by a score of 59-13 on the road.  Seth Doege passed for over 400 yards and completed 40 out of his 44 passes.  His performance set NCAA records in completion percentage.  Texas Tech hosts Nevada next week.

Missouri – The Tigers had no problem whatsoever with Western Illinois as the routed them, 69-0. Sophomore RB Henry Josey ran for 263 yards on only 14 carries.  Don’t expect a repeat of that performance as the Tigers travel to take on the #1 ranked Sooners this Saturday.

Baylor – Robert Griffin III (RG3) continues his Heisman campaign after an easy win over Stephen F. Austin.  RG3 was 20 for 22 with over 260 yards passing in a game that was shortened by lightning.  The game ended in only the 3rd quarter.  Baylor plays Rice this weekend.

Kansas State – KSU took care of business against Kent State, 37-0.  QB Collin Klein rushed for over 139 yards but only threw for 74.  The Wildcats are now 2-0 and have a toughie next week as they travel to Miami to play “The U”.

Oklahoma – The Sooners proved why they are ranked on top of all the national polls.  They beat Florida State in Tallahassee in front of a sold out crowd, 23-13.  LB Travis Lewis made his debut for OU and his impact showed as the Sooner defense was outstanding.  Kenny Stills caught 7 passes for 125 yards in last Saturday’s big win.  The Sooners open up conference play against Mizzou in Norman.

Oklahoma State – This game was delayed due to weather and didn’t kickoff until after midnight and finished after 3:00 AM.  OSU beat Tulsa comfortably, 59-33.  Brandon Weeden threw for 369 yards and 3 TDs.  Oklahoma State will travel to College Station in a matchup of top-10 teams this weekend.

Texas A&M – A&M beat Idaho last week 37-7.  Ryan Tannehill threw for 337 yards and Cyrus Gray rushed for over 100.  The Aggies are preparing for the big game against Oklahoma State this weekend.
